Reading Skillset Packaging

Working at Lovevery, I was part of the team working on packaging for the new Reading Skillset. The packaging needed to be visually appealing, cost effective, and an interesting unboxing experience for buyers.

A walkthrough of my design process for packaging one of the products in the Reading Skillset.

Ideation

I started off by 3D modeling different options using Artioscad for 2D packaging components and Solidworks for 3D packaging components and product models. Here are a few different iterations I went through before settling on one.

Presentation and Review

I made a slide deck showing different options rendered in 3D and exploded views and presented these to the product design and packaging design teams. â€‹

Prototype and Test Fit

With feedback from the team, I settled on a design direction. To make a to scale prototype, I 3D printed all of the parts modeled in SolidWorks, and laser cut all of the 2D packaging modeled in Artioscad.

The outer packaging of the game was a setup box, so while I made 2D patterns of the chipboard and wraps in Artioscad, I also made a 3D model of the setup box in SolidWorks for an accurate test fit.

Next Steps

Once the design team approved my prototype, I sent the Artioscad packaging dielines and Bill of Materials along with a short slide deck of packaging instructions to our team in Hong Kong. Our supplier there than provided me with prototypes and any feedback they may have. I made minor adjustments to the dielines based on the feedback given and used the updated prototypes to test fit products sent from the factory, and then finalized the dielines.
